Upcoming Closures 

The Aquatics Centre will be closed on April 7 and 10, and May 22, 2023.


The Aquatics Centre features an indoor pool with four 25-metre-length lanes and an attached leisure pool. A ramp and wide steps into the pool make it accessible for all. A nearby splash pad is available to enjoy in the warmer weather.

The pool offers year-round programming, including private, semi-private and group swimming lessons, plus family swims, public swims and lane swims, as well as specialty programs like aquafit, aqualight and others. Click the button below to view a current swim schedule.

Swimming Lessons

Registration for spring swimming lessons (starting April 29) starts on Monday, April 17 at 5:00 pm.

Lesson descriptions and registration links are available in the list below. 

Lesson changes due to recent closure

Due to the recent closure of the pool, the next session of swimming lessons will run as noted below. Prices have been adjusted based on reduced session lengths; credits will be applied to your ActiveNet account to make up the difference in cost. 

If this new swim session no longer works with your schedule, please call us at 519-284-2160 and we will process a refund.

Aquatics Programs

Registration for spring aquatics programs (running March to June) is open.

Registration for summer aquatics programs starts Monday, June 12 at 3:00 pm.

Aqualight

Increase your strength and flexibility with this light cardio, low impact water workout. Together we will gradually explore mindful movements, stretches, range of motion and breathing techniques based on water walking, yoga, tai-chi, pilates and dance.

Aquafit

Get energised, burn calories, and improve your overall fitness with this moderate to high intensity cardio water workout.  Exercising in the water lowers the impact of high intensity movements while creating a natural resistance that will build your muscle strength.

Family Swim

Bring the family for an open swim in our indoor pool. Enjoy deep and shallow ends as well as an attached leisure pool. A ramp and wide steps into the pool make it accessible for all.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Policy in effect.

Lanes are set out for lap swimming, providing an excellent opportunity to get fit.

Leadership Aquatic Volunteer Program (NEW!)

This new opportunity includes supporting a swim lesson class under the direction of an instructor. Aquatic volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age, with current Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid.

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Gain valuable work experience and skills to become a swim instructor and lifeguard
  • Earn discounts towards aquatic leadership courses
  • A chance to give back to your community and earn high school volunteer hours
  • Take advantage of future aquatic job opportunities with the Town of St. Marys
  • Opportunity to join the lifeguard team while they train

How to become a volunteer:

  • Fill out the volunteer registration form
  • Staff will advise on process going forward after receiving the registration form

How to earn discounts towards aquatic courses:

  • Volunteer 30 hours and you will receive 40% off Bronze Cross.
  • Volunteer 30 hours and you will receive 40% off Swim Instructors Course.
  • Volunteer time is flexible, you can volunteer before, after or during the Bronze Cross courses to extend this discount to you.

Swim Instructor Course

The Lifesaving Society's Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program.

Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.

Prerequisites: 

  • 15 years of age by the end of the course
  • Bronze Cross certification (need not be current).

Visit the Lifesaving Society's website to determine if you have the prerequisites to take this course. 

Required reference materials: 

  • Swim Instructor Pack, included in the fee (includes Instructor Manual, Swim for Life Award Guide, Teaching Swim for Life and Leadership Binder).

Admission Policy

7 years and under

Regardless of swimming ability, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 12 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of 2 children per parent/guardian and must remain in the shallow end. Parent/guardian must be in bathing attire and within arm’s reach of the child(ren) at all times in and out of the water. Lifejackets are available for those 7 and under, but not required.

8 to 10 years

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 12 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of 2 children for per parent/guardian and must remain in the shallow end.  Maximum number of children increases to 8 bathers to one parent/guardian (8:1) if approved life-jackets are worn by all non-swimmers in their charge. They must remain in the shallow end.

Parent/guardian must be in bathing attire and within arm's reach of the child(ren) at all times in and out of the water.

Child can complete swim test: Admitted unaccompanied.

11+ years
Admitted unaccompanied. Recommended to always swim with a buddy.
Definitions
  • Swim Test: Tread water for 30 seconds and swim 2 widths continuously.

  • Direct Supervision - Able to render immediate assistance, 'within arm's reach'.

  • Guardian - A person of at least 12 years of age who is responsible for the children.

  • Swim attire - Bathing attire is used for the purpose of swimming only. T-shirts are permitted. Undergarments, cut-offs and street clothes are not permitted.

How do I use your online registration portal?
Registration instructions and tutorials are available on our Register for Programs page. 
Can I book a room with my pool rental?
Yes, room bookings are available. Please contact Guest Service at 519-284-2160 or prccsr@town.stmarys.on.ca.
Can I use a locker to store my items?
Yes, lockers are available. Please bring your own lock. 
What if I don’t have a credit card or access to the internet? How do I register?

Call us at 519-284-2160 and we will assist you.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a minimum of 24 hours notice to avoid being charged for the program. To cancel your program, please email aquatics@town.stmarys.on.ca or call 519-284-2160 to speak directly to a Guest Services Attendant. 

What equipment is available for my swim?
We have noodles, kick boards, pull buoys and lifejackets available to use.  
Can I use the sauna?
Yes, the sauna is open.
