1. Why did the Town “upgrade” from a conservation notice to a ban?
Warm and dry conditions in 2016 have resulted in increased demands on the water system. As a result, water levels are declining more quickly than usual. The upgrade is a preventative measure to lessen the strain on the system while maintaining adequate water levels.

An external watering ban for the town has been implemented, effective immediately.
Due to the prolonged warm and dry conditions currently being experienced in the region, excessive water use is putting a strain on the Town’s water production capabilities. The water supply is not recharging and consumption continues to place a growing strain on the system.

To accommodate Emergency Medical Services and ensure pavement quality, the Town of St. Marys will be paving Queen Street between Peel Street and Thomas Street in one day on Wednesday, August 17. Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin at 4:00 a.m. and estimated to be complete by 6:00 p.m.
