The Town of St. Marys is announcing further service reductions and project delays as part of its efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The St. Marys Fire Hall renovation that was set to begin on April 1, 2020 has been delayed until further notice. The Fire Department will continue to operate out of the Municipal Operations Centre until the project is complete.
The Town will continue to accept and issue building permits for other construction projects, but will only conduct inspections on projects that have been deemed essential by the Province of Ontario’s latest regulations.
Curbside leaf and yard waste collection, which usually starts in May, is now tentatively scheduled to begin July 1, 2020. The Leaf and Yard Waste Depot at the Municipal Operations Centre remains open daily from dawn till dusk. Those using the depot are reminded to practice physical distancing by staying 2 metres (6 feet) from other patrons.
All public drinking fountains in St. Marys will remain turned off until July 1, 2020.
These actions follow the closure of all municipal offices and buildings, as well as indoor and outdoor recreation and leisure facilities. Town employees are still working to provide services, where possible. A list of all closures, operational services and contact information is available online at townofstmarys.com/covid19 or by calling 519-284-2340.
The Town continues to monitor this evolving situation and is following the recommendations of Huron Perth Public Health. We will provide updates as they become available through the Town website (townofstmarys.com/covid19) and social media accounts (facebook.com/stmarysontario and twitter.com/townofstmarys).

The Aquatics Centre has been closed to the public since November 2024, to accommodate renovations to the space that would address safety concerns caused by saltwater and high humidity. These renovations were deemed essential to ensure the facility could be used safely and effectively by the community. Due to unexpected recently discovered structural issues caused by saltwater and high humidity stemming from insufficiently sized HVAC equipment installed during the original construction, the renovation work is now expected to extend the closure until fall 2025.
The Town is hosting a drop-in Open House in the EndZone of the Pyramid Recreation Centre on Wednesday, June 18 from 5 to 7 PM. Residents will have the chance to observe the progress of the renovation to date and ask questions.
