This year’s "Natural World" theme encourages kids to connect with the outdoors

The St. Marys Public Library’s popular TD Summer Reading Club will return on July 2. Free booklets are available now for children to use to track their summer reading. Children who reach certain milestones will be eligible to receive prizes from the circulation desk.

A variety of free drop-in crafts, games and experiments will also take place over the summer. School age children can register for reading help and "Funday Friday" events. Upcoming "Funday Fridays" include a Village Craft and Candle Make 'n' Take (July 5), Bob the Fossil Guy (July 12), Magician Peter Mennie (July 19) and more.

"I'm excited about this year's 'Natural World' theme," Sarah Billings, Summer Reading Program Coordinator, says. "Some of the crafts we'll be making include bird feeders, bee houses and creations from natural materials found outside. We'll have plenty of nature-themed book suggestions for kids as well."

To celebrate the start of the program, Billings has raised "Jude" the caterpillar from an egg. Right now he can be found munching leaves in his terrarium in the display by the circulation desk. She will continue to diligently care for him until he can be released as a monarch butterfly.
