Residents asked to enter a draw in advance for a chance to win

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the first Cindy’s Law Fire Extinguisher Giveaway, the St. Marys Fire Department will be doing it again, but this time using a draw format.

On October 31 they will be giving away 100 more fire extinguishers to be placed in residents vehicles. Anyone wishing to enter their name into the draw can do so on the Town of St. Marys website at townofstmarys.com/cindyslaw using the online form. Submissions must be in by 11:59 p.m. on Friday October 29. Names will be drawn live on the Town of St. Marys Facebook page (@St.Marys.Ontario) on October 30 starting at 10:00 a.m. Winners can pick up their fire extinguishers at the St. Marys Fire Station on October 31 between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

“We had such a huge turnout at the first event that all 120 fire extinguishers were distributed before the event was even half over!” Said St. Marys Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “While the turnout was incredibly encouraging, this time we’re doing it a bit differently by holding a draw in advance. This will help control the event a bit more and avoid any disappointments.”

“We want to thank all of the sponsors for helping us with the fruition of the first event and continuing to support us as we hold future ones”. Said retired paramedic Lorne Culbert, who is a key player in planning the events. “Cindy Devine loved Halloween, so much that her wedding anniversary was on October 31. We’re pleased to be able to honour her life with this important initiative on her favourite holiday.”

Sponsors of these events include AllRoads Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Ltd., Ashton Tire Service Ltd., Canadian Tire St. Marys, Cascades, Dowler-Karn Ltd., Food Land St. Marys, Harris Greig Automotive, Perth County Ingredients, Sam’s Home Hardware, St. Marys Kinsmen, St. Marys Lions Club, and Your Independent Grocer St. Marys.

Those who receive a free fire extinguisher are encouraged to share a photo on social media with #CindysLaw or #ExtinguishersForCindy.
