St. Marys residents will have a new place to beat the heat this summer. The Town is currently developing the design for a splash pad that will be built in Cadzow Park later this year. The project is a joint effort between the Town and the Rotary Club of St. Marys, which has contributed $100,000 to the splash pad.

To date, three design options have been developed for the new splash pad. Starting on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., residents will have an opportunity to share their input on the designs through a survey, available online at www.townofstmarys.com and in hard copy at Town Hall. Feedback will be accepted until 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12.

The Town’s Director of Building and Development, Grant Brouwer, will also present the three design options to local elementary school students next week. Brouwer spoke with students from Little Falls Public School and Holy Name of Mary back in 2017 when the Town was developing Cadzow’s new playground.

“The feedback we got from students about the playground was invaluable,” said Brouwer. “Their comments had a definite impact on the final design and helped us create a structure that has already become a beloved part of the park.”

“We look forward to hearing their thoughts on the new splash pad,” added Brouwer. “Visiting the schools is a great opportunity to see these projects through the students’ eyes and to teach them about the importance of civic engagement.”

The input gathered through the survey and school visit will be consolidated and considered as the design of the splash pad is finalized. Brouwer will present the final design to Council for approval in February. The new amenity should be open to the public by July 1, 2018.

The installation of the splash pad is part of a multi-year project to revitalize Cadzow Park. A minor amphitheatre and pavilion will also be added to the park in 2018, thanks to a $20,000 donation from the St. Marys Lions Club. The Town will be seeking feedback on the design of the amphitheatre and pavilion in March.
