Town offering grant funding for community improvement projects

The Town of St. Marys is offering money to local business and landowners who are working to beautify and revitalize their community. A minimum of $50,000 is available through the Town’s Community Improvement Plan, which allows the municipality to invest in projects led by private property and business owners.

The Community Improvement Plan includes 12 grant programs, focused on three strategic goals: the development of attainable housing, improvements to the downtown and upgrades to industrial areas. Private property and business owners who are considering projects that relate to these goals can apply to receive funding to offset their costs.

The Town is particularly interested in funding projects that add to the availability of attainable housing in St. Marys. Grants are available for projects that assist with the creation of new rental units or improve the conditions of current rental units, both in the downtown and beyond.

Downtown business and property owners can apply for grants that support improvements to building facades and signage, the creation of public art and publicly accessible private spaces, and the establishment of sidewalk cafes and outdoor patios.

Those with property and businesses in the industrial area may be eligible for funding for projects that increase the supply of serviced residential/commercial land and to promote the development of previously undevelopable lands.

Those interested in applying for Community Improvement Plan grants are encouraged to visit www.townofstmarys.com/CIP to review all available funding opportunities. From there, potential applicants must complete and submit a Pre-consultation Form and meet with Town staff to discuss the proposed project.

Additional information about the Community Improvement Plan is available at townofstmarys.com/CIP. Questions about funding can be directed to Morgan Dykstra, Public Works & Planning Coordinator at 519-284-2340 ext. 213 or mdykstra@town.stmarys.on.ca.
