Town of St. Marys to conduct second emergency services exercise

Contact Us

The Town is once again testing how it would respond in the event of a major emergency in St. Marys. On Thursday, May 31, 2018 between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, the Town will conduct an emergency services exercise at the Pyramid Recreation Centre.

The Town led a similar exercise in May of 2017. The 2017 scenario, known as “Exercise Hail Mary,” measured the Town’s response to a collision that involved a school bus and an oil tanker truck. This time, the Town will test its ability to manage a major evacuation of residents to the Pyramid Recreation Centre.

As with the 2017 event, this year’s exercise will involve a number of agencies, including the St. Marys Fire Department, Perth Paramedic Services, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police, Canadian Red Cross, Perth District Health Unit, Stratford Perth Humane Society and the City of Stratford.

Unlike the 2017 event, there will be no road closures or service disruptions associated with this year’s exercise. Programs at the Pyramid Recreation Centre will run as planned. However, residents may notice an increased presence of police and other emergency services during the event.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend the exercise and are asked to check in at the Guest Services Desk at the Pyramid Recreation Centre. Public interested in viewing the exercise may use the windows across from the canteen, but are asked not to enter the Rock Rink.
