Town launching free shower program at the Pyramid Recreation Centre

The Town of St. Marys is trying to wash away stigma with a new program at the Pyramid Recreation Centre.

Members of the public can visit the facility on Tuesdays between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 pm to access the free shower program. The program offers safe, private, and secure showers for people of all abilities. Toiletries – like shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, and toothpaste – are also available at no cost.

The program was developed by Town’s Community Services Department, along with Brittany Petrie, St. Marys’ Community Outreach Worker. Part of Petrie’s role is to support residents experiencing homelessness, some of whom may not have regular access to a shower.

“Most people take having a hot shower for granted,” said Petrie. “But there are individuals in our community who simply don’t have access to shower facilities. This program is designed to fill that gap for anyone who needs it, for any reason.”

Those who want to use the shower can visit the Guest Services desk at the Pyramid Recreation Centre during program hours. Staff will provide toiletries upon request and direct patrons to the private shower. While there are no strict time limits, patrons are encouraged to keep their shower to 30 minutes or less. Towels are not provided.
