Town Appoints Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief

ST. MARYS, ON – On Tuesday April 12, 2016 St. Marys Town Council officially appointed the Town’s new Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief. Mayor Strathdee and the Council of the Town of St Marys are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Richard Anderson to this position.

Anderson will be joining the Town from the civilian fire department located at Canadian Forces Base Borden where he is currently in the role of Deputy Fire Chief. He comes with 35 years’ experience in the fire services field working in both military and civilian capacities, and has previously served in fire services related roles for the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan. Among the numerous certifications he has successfully completed, he has also achieved the highest level of the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Officer accreditation (level IV).

He and his family are excited about re-locating to St. Marys. Anderson offers:
“I am excited and honoured to be stepping into the role of Chief. I look forward to working closely with all of the volunteers, Council and the Senior Management Team. It’s exciting for me to be able to lead an incredible group of fire service professionals within the St. Marys Fire Department that are focused on delivering the highest quality educational, preventative, communication and emergency response services possible to the community and the citizens of St. Marys.”

Mayor Strathdee offered the following comments on behalf of Council and the hiring committee:
“It was extremely important to Council and to the hiring committee that we find a highly skilled candidate that would fit well with our unique Town, and our department of volunteers. We are pleased to welcome Mr. Anderson to our organization, and look forward to working with him to continue the tradition of excellent fire services that our Town receives from our dedicated volunteers. A very sincere thank you is owed to Acting Chief Brent Dundas who has stepped up in this interim period. Thanks is also owed to retired Chief Dennis Brownlee who has also helped the Town through this time of transition”
Anderson’s appointment is effective as of May 9, 2016 which will be his first day with the Town.
