Quarry also offering free swim on June 30 and new water running program in July

Just a few weeks after his Jumpstart polar dip, Town of St. Marys Mayor Al Strathdee will be making another ceremonial splash in the St. Marys Quarry – this time to celebrate the opening of the relocated cliff jump. The Mayor will be the first to take the plunge on Saturday, June 17, when the quarry officially opens for weekend swimming. In celebration of the event, individual admission for all ages that day will be two dollars.

The quarry’s annual opening celebration, Quarry Kick-off, will return Friday, June 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event will include games, prizes, a DJ and more. Admission will be free, as Tim Hortons has sponsored swimming that day in celebration of Canada 150.

Following the kick-off event, the quarry will be open from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. daily until Monday, September 4. Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of activities at the facility including popular stand-up paddleboarding rentals and lessons. New this year is a drop-in water running program. This zero-impact exercise class will give participants the opportunity to keep fit in a beautiful outdoor setting. The program will run Mondays and Wednesdays, July 3 to August 30, from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. Flotation belts will be provided and the cost to participate is covered by admission.

Details about swimming lessons, admission guidelines and more can be found in the Town’s 2017 Spring and Summer Recreation and Leisure Program Guide, available online at www.townofstmarys.com/townguide or at most Town facilities. Additional Information

St. Marys-based contractor McLean Taylor Construction completed the relocation of the cliff jump in 2016. These upgrades also included the installation of a 25-foot water trampoline last summer, which will be returning this season.
