Convenient listing makes it easy to support local business

Since the Province of Ontario mandated that only essential workplaces remain open to reduce the spread of COVID-19, knowing which businesses are open has been a challenge.

The Town of St. Marys is pleased to offer a reliable directory of local businesses so residents can continue to get the products they need while supporting our community during this unprecedented pandemic. The directory also includes useful links to help businesses cope with this new reality.

“The idea was to develop a comprehensive resource that makes it easy for consumers to access local products and services,” notes Kelly Deeks-Johnson, St. Marys’ Tourism and Economic Development Manager. “We reached out to our business community by email and social media and have been overwhelmed and grateful for the response.”

“It’s never been more important to support the St. Marys business community,” Mayor Al Strathdee says. “So many have been hit in the pocketbook with forced closures or reductions in their operating hours and services they can provide. It’s inspiring to see how innovative many of our businesses are being in light of this devastating situation.”

The directory is available at townofstmarys.com/covidbusiness. It is divided into sectors including shopping, dining, professional services, recreation, utilities, transportation and places of worship. Each listing includes a status, address, online contact information and a telephone number.

Deeks-Johnson adds: “Many of our businesses do a great job informing their followers on social media, but this directory literally puts everyone on the same page. Anyone with an internet connection can access this directory, so we ask that people share it far and wide.”

“Our community has really rallied behind our local businesses, it’s been nice to see the level of support and the partnerships that have developed between some of our businesses to enhance their current offerings,” she continues.

The directory is updated daily, so changes can be easily accommodated. Businesses that are not listed are asked to call Deeks-Johnson at 519-284-2340, ext. 272 or email communications@town.stmarys.on.ca. Please include your business name, street address, current business status (including hours), plus any social media accounts or website.

Those who have questions about local businesses but do not have internet access can call 519-284-3272 for assistance between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
