Contact Us

June 2017 marks the 33rd annual Seniors’ Month in Ontario and this year’s theme is “living your best life.” The St. Marys Friendship Centre plans to celebrate the occasion with events that will enhance and showcase the vibrant lives of seniors in our community.

On Thursday, June 8, a triathlon will take place as part of the Ontario Seniors’ Games. Participants will begin with a trail walk from Milt Dunnell Field around 10:00 a.m., complete a bike ride and then finish their day with a swim at the Pyramid Recreation Centre. The event is open to individuals aged fifty and older. Those interested in participating can register for $12 per person until May 31 at the Friendship Centre.

From Monday, June 5 until Friday, June 16, the Friendship Centre will host a Seniors’ Month Celebration Art Exhibit in its main hall. Submissions of acrylic, oil, watercolour, drawing and mixed media art will be accepted until May 31. Admission to this event is free.

The popular “Not-so-Newlywed Game Show” will also return to the Friendship Centre on Wednesday, June 7. This entertaining evening will challenge couples to answer questions about their partners in a fun atmosphere. Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m., and the show will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person for both the dinner and show, or $5 per person for just the show. Pre-registration is recommended as this event has sold out quickly in previous years.

Finally, the Friendship Centre will be hosting a Seniors’ Month Barbecue Friday, June 16 at 12:00 p.m. Lunch includes a choice of hamburger, veggie burger, hotdog, salads and more. The event will feature live entertainment starting at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 (Friendship Centre members save $2) with proceeds benefitting local seniors programs. The deadline to reserve lunch tickets is June 12.

For details or to register for any of the above events, contact the Vanessa De Groot, Senior Services Program Coordinator at 519-284-2340, ext. 621 or vdegroot@town.stmarys.on.ca.
