The St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department has received a grant from Farm Credit Canada (FCC) through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund, allowing them to purchase much needed Wildland Firefighting Coveralls for the entire department.

This year FCC gave $1.5 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to 88 community groups across Canada to support rural capital projects. The St. Marys Fire Department was one of those fortunate recipients.

“We are very grateful to Farm Credit Canada.” says St. Marys Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “The Wildland Coveralls can help our team move about more efficiently and quickly in situations where the full bunker gear is not a necessity.”

The Wildland firefighting coveralls along with water backpacks are ideal in situations where firefighters need to move about quickly, and contain situations where a truck may not always be able to reach. They are lightweight, durable, and comfortable while still providing complete protection against heat, flames, and embers. They are also very quick to don and doff with a single heavy-duty zipper.

Donations like this help the St. Marys Fire Department to perform their duties even more efficiently, enabling them to protect the community at an even higher service level. Other individuals or organizations that would like to donate to the Fire Department can send their contribution to: St. Marys Fire Department, PO Box 998, 172 James Street South, St. Marys, ON N4X 1B6 or contact Fire Chief Anderson at 519-284-2340 ext. 201.
