The fun begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 1

Summer is finally here and there’s no better way to begin the season than by attending the annual Canada Day party at Cadzow Park, happening this Monday, July 1!

Start the party with a pancake brunch courtesy of Thames Vista Farms at 11 a.m. There’s good reason to indulge, as proceeds from this by-donation meal benefit the St. Marys Museum. Please bring your reusable cutlery and dinnerware and your refillable beverage bottles as the Ontario Clean Water Agency water buggy will be on site all day (and the forecast calls for sunny, hot weather).

This year, everyone’s a winner when it comes to butter tarts, as past baking contest participants have agreed to donate batches to sell as a fundraiser for the museum. If sweets aren’t your style, check out the offerings from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame barbecue and the Sunset Shack. Living Rock Church will serve free popcorn.

The Canada Day parade leaves the Pyramid Recreation Centre at 11 a.m. Road closures will occur as the parade makes its way up James Street to Queen Street, into downtown, south on Water Street and onto Park Street as it winds its way to Cadzow Park.

Please note that the free fitness class, scheduled for 10 a.m., has been cancelled. There’s lots of music to keep your feet moving throughout the day, however: The Halftones take to the Lions stage at 11 a.m., followed by Paul Droog at noon. After the opening ceremonies, singing of O Canada, raising of the flag and the iconic McDonald’s Independent Grocer cupcake cake, Harmony of Friends will take to the stage with their mix of pop and rock classics.

From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., there will be many free activities for children, including crafts at the Museum, an inflatable, face painting and crafts courtesy of the St. Marys Public Library – all in addition to the Rotary splash pad and the playground!

Come dusk, return to the park with blankets to enjoy a free showing of Dumbo courtesy of the Friends of the Library to cap off a fun day of celebrating our nation.
