The St. Marys Fire Department is pleased to announce Owen Wrigley as its Firefighter of the Month for March.

Owen became a firefighter in 2022, after completing his co-op placement with the department the previous year. He attended Lambton College to achieve his Firefighter Level I & II, Hazmat Awareness and Operation certificates.

Owen is a certified lifeguard which made him a prime candidate to become a member of the Fire Department’s swift water/ice rescue “Go Team”.

“The fact that I can utilize my lifeguarding skills for the betterment of the “Go Team” is a real bonus,” says Owen.

He continues: “The main reason I wanted to become a volunteer firefighter is because it’s an active job that allows me to help people in danger.”

Off duty, Owen dedicates his time to his family and hobbies.

“Owen was selected as Firefighter of the Month because of his passion for the trade,” says Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “Owen has embraced being a volunteer firefighter by helping our community through educational and charity events. This gives him the opportunity to be a positive influence in our town.”

“Owen is making a real impact on the department,” says Deputy Fire Chief Phil West. “He is steadily progressing with his recruit training program and has obtained his DZ license which allows him to drive and operate some of the fire apparatus.”
