Options available for individuals experiencing homelessness in St. Marys

Contact Us

In light of the extreme cold weather, the Town of St. Marys is sharing an update on the services available for individuals who are experiencing homelessness this winter.

Community Outreach Worker

The Town’s full-time Community Outreach Worker, Brittany Petrie, is in regular contact with individuals experiencing homelessness in St Marys. A Registered Social Worker, Brittany offers facilitation, education, and referrals for those who require socio-economic support.

If you are experiencing homelessness and have yet to speak to our Outreach Worker, or are concerned about a person in need, please contact Brittany at 226-261-0098 or bpetrie@town.stmarys.on.ca.

Warming Stations

Several Town facilities are open for those looking for a safe, warm space during daytime hours. Options include:

  • Pyramid Recreation Centre (317 James St. S)
  • St. Marys Public Library (15 Church St. N)
  • St. Marys Museum (177 Church St. S)

Emergency Accommodation

The City of Stratford Social Services Department is the provincially designated provider of short-term emergency accommodation for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Perth County.

The Town can connect individuals/families experiencing homelessness in St. Marys with the City of Stratford to arrange emergency accommodation.

Emergency accommodation services are completely voluntary; individuals experiencing homelessness have the right to refuse them and may choose to do so, despite the cold temperatures.

If you need emergency accommodation, or know someone that does, contact the Outreach Worker at 226-261-0098 or bpetrie@town.stmarys.on.ca or the City of Stratford at 519-271-3773, ext. 200 or 1-800-669-2948 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.); 519-272-2294 or 1-888-829-7484 (after hours, weekends, and holidays).
