NOTICE: Future solid waste disposal needs Environmental Assessment

Contact Us

The Town of St. Marys has completed their “Future Solid Waste Disposal Needs Environmental Assessment”. As required under section 6.2(1) of the Environmental Assessment Act and according to the terms of reference approved by the Minister of the Environment on December 29, 2014, the Town of St. Marys has submitted its environmental assessment to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks for review and approval.

THE STUDY
The Town of St. Marys (Town) and R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Consultant) have prepared an Individual Environmental Assessment (EA) under the Environmental Assessment Act for the identification and selection of a preferred solid waste disposal option. This involved a review of options to manage solid waste over the next 40 years. The preferred alternative is to expand the existing landfill at 1221 Water Street South. We have also reviewed alternative methods of site expansion and have determined a combined vertical and horizontal expansion of the St. Marys landfill is preferred.
