In 2019, the Town of St. Marys performed a comprehensive Service Delivery Review in an effort to be better positioned for current and potential future provincial budget cuts while ensuring that a high level of service can still be provided to residents without undue tax increases.

As a result of the Service Delivery Review, Public Works staff were directed to consider closing certain sections of the sidewalk/trail network to increase efficiencies. Due to the choice of suitable contractors and the fact that access is from private property, Public Works staff recommended eliminating snow removal activities on portions of the Riverview Walkway (see image for detailed closures). Residents can still use the Water St. sidewalk to continue their walking activities.

Council passed a by-law authorizing the closure on November 12 and the new “no winter maintenance” signs are in the process of being installed.
