After a two-year hiatus, the popular St. Marys Museum seminar series returns this fall with two engaging evening presentations.

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., Dayna Prest will discuss LGBTQ+ history and sense of place in the area around St. Marys. The seminar coincides with LGBTQ+ History Month in Canada, an ideal time to learn more about these important stories in our community.

Prest has a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Feminist and Gender Studies from the University of Ottawa. Prest also holds a PhD in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies from Western University. Prest’s doctoral research involved walking interviews with LGBTQ+ folks living in and around the Stratford area with a focus on sense of place and community. Prest grew up in St. Marys and currently lives and works in Kitchener/Waterloo.

On Thursday, November 17, 2022, the museum will hold a seminar discussing the impact of waterways on our community. Led by Patrick Donnelly, the City of London’s Watershed Program Manager and local historian Ken Telfer, this seminar will explore the past, present, and future relationship between St. Marys and its surrounding waterways.

The cost to attend each seminar is $12 or $10 for museum members, with proceeds supporting the museum. Space is limited; pre-registration is necessary. For more information or to register, call 519-284-3556 or email museum@town.stmarys.on.ca.
