The St. Marys Museum is inviting past and present Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) members to join them at the St. Marys Museum on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for an evening reception with light refreshments.
In 1959, the St. Marys Queen Alexandra branch of FWIO opened a museum in the historic George Tracy House. The reception will celebrate the 125th anniversary of FWIO, with a special exhibit honoring the local branch.
The museum has reverted the dining room gallery to reflect how the museum looked when run by the local branch entitled “For Home and Country. It is dedicated to the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario, honours the history and celebrates the achievements of branches local to St. Marys and surrounding area.
“Their passion for local history has had a lasting impact on the town of St. Marys.” Says Amy Cubberley, Cultural Services Manager for the Town of St. Marys Museum and Archives. “We’re excited to offer the community this opportunity to experience this special part of St. Marys history.”
Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to museum staff by January 6, 2023, at 519-284-3556 or museum@town.stmarys.on.ca.

The Aquatics Centre has been closed to the public since November 2024, to accommodate renovations to the space that would address safety concerns caused by saltwater and high humidity. These renovations were deemed essential to ensure the facility could be used safely and effectively by the community. Due to unexpected recently discovered structural issues caused by saltwater and high humidity stemming from insufficiently sized HVAC equipment installed during the original construction, the renovation work is now expected to extend the closure until fall 2025.
The Town is hosting a drop-in Open House in the EndZone of the Pyramid Recreation Centre on Wednesday, June 18 from 5 to 7 PM. Residents will have the chance to observe the progress of the renovation to date and ask questions.
