Summer concert series features local favourites and new talent

Back by popular demand, the St. Marys Museum will be hosting its seventh annual Melodies at the Museum summer concert series during the month of August. Every Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. a different musical performance will take place outdoors at the performing arts stage in Cadzow Park. With five Wednesdays in August this year, there are five concerts to look forward to in the coming month!

Big Jon and the Honkin’ Swans will kick off the concert series on August 1. Playing the songs you love and haven’t heard in a while, Big Jon’s powerful and soulful voice is supported by the rhythm section of Mike McCullogh on bass and Paul Cooper on drums. Completing the band is Firehouse Harris and L’il Biff Mingus. Together, they’re a powerful and fun combination that will have you moving and grooving to the beat. Big John and the Honkin’ Swans had much of the crowd up and dancing during their last Melodies at the Museum performance in 2014, so bring your dancing shoes!

August 8 brings the Gee Gees, four moms who love to play, sing, laugh and have fun. On August 15, local musician Wes Murray will perform. Wes had the honour of being the first musician to perform on the stage during the Cadzow Park re-opening in June. We are looking forward to hearing his full set!

On August 22, Caroline Burchill and Tom Osgerby, will be the featured performers. The concert series will conclude on August 29 with Corduroy Gordon. Stay tuned for more detailed biographies on each performer!

Admission to the concerts is by donation, with all proceeds going to the St. Marys Museum. Keep an eye out for volunteers from Meridian Credit Union and the Friends of the Museum who will be welcoming participants and taking admission donations. Performances will take place on the new performing arts stage in Cadzow Park and will be moved to St. James Anglican Church at 65 Church Street South in inclement weather.
