ST. MARYS, ON – Recent comments in the media alleging that the Town of St. Marys is closed to industry have prompted Mayor Al Strathdee to make the following statement:

“These comments are unfortunate, regrettable, and could not be further from the truth. The Town of St. Marys has been fortunate to have a strong and successful industrial base throughout its history. We have always weathered the ups and downs of the global economy. A key part of this success are the partnerships that have been formed between the Town and its industrial sector. The Town of St. Marys has always taken a lead role in ensuring that these relationships remain strong, while respecting the needs of the community.
As Mayor, I strongly believe that it is my role to fairly represent the interests and concerns of all members of our community, including residents and industry. When issues are raised by either group, I believe it is my job to ensure that those concerns are heard. I also believe that it is my job to try and bring all those affected together to work collaboratively in an effort to find a common resolution. It is unfortunate that this vision of the Mayor’s office is not always shared by those involved. However, it is my sincere belief that that this is the best way for me to execute the duties of my office and to serve the wonderful Town of St. Marys.
The Town of St. Marys remains open for business and industry. We are a strong resilient community, and are a desirable location for new industry to locate. We have competitive water and waste water rates, and we have ensured that our commercial and industrial tax rates are appropriate. Most importantly, we have an excellent local workforce with a strong work ethic and ability to adapt to the demands of today’s global economy. We will continue to grow the relationships with our current industrial partners, and we look forward to building new partnerships into the future.”
