In 2017, the Library was successful in acquiring grant money from the Stratford Perth Community Foundation in order to create a Makerspace. Due to space constraints, the Library's makerspace will operate as a mobile station where members of the community can tinker, create and make by making appointments to use the equipment. “Our Makerspace is a new way for people to connect with and use their Library,” Rebecca Webb, Library Services Coordinator, says.

The Library’s Makerspace currently contains a 2” button maker, a KLIC-N-KUT: Zing Orbit vinyl cutter with SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) software, a heat press, and access to Adobe Creative Suite on a Library-owned laptop. With these innovative tools, users can make buttons, press customized designs onto t-shirts, create vinyl stickers, and so much more! Plus, with access to software such as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe InDesign, users can craft digital creations limited only by the scope of their imagination. Use of the Makerspace is free but there is a cost of materials – contact the Library for a cost list.

Instructions on how to use the equipment will be available for participants to refer to as they create, and a staff member will be nearby to consult if any problems arise. There is also a plethora of tutorials available on the internet that show you how to make all kinds of simple, professional-looking creations.

“Already, we foster a culture of ‘making’ through programs like our After Hours craft events and kids programs throughout the summer and the rest of the year and we are excited to be able to offer this new equipment to the community” Webb says.
