Water trampoline and paddleboarding program among new offerings at the popular swimming spot

Those visiting the St. Marys quarry this summer might notice something new in the water.

Starting in July, an inflatable water trampoline will be among the attractions offered at the popular swimming hole. The 25-foot trampoline will be available for use during all open swims, summer camps and recreation programs, and will provide new thrills for those missing the diving boards and cliff jumps.

The new trampoline is just one of many features that make the quarry a hot spot for residents and visitors. Known as Canada’s largest outdoor freshwater pool, it offers exceptional swimming conditions, a large grassed area for lounging, beach volleyball courts and a Tiki Hut for snacks. Stand-up paddleboards are also available to rent, thanks to a generous donation from Meridian Credit Union in 2015.

The quarry is also an ideal destination for those who want to hone their swimming skills. The Town of St. Marys runs swimming lessons and advanced aquatics courses at the quarry throughout the summer. Paddleboarding programs are also available in June, July and August. Offerings include introductory and intermediate classes, as well fitness-focused courses like SUP Yoga Fit. New this year is the Youth Stand-up Paddleboarding Camp, which gives participants the opportunity to build their technique and foundational skills, while enjoying games, races and mini-tours.

Those who can’t wait to dip their toes in the water are in luck; the quarry will be open on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26. The annual opening celebration, known as the Quarry Kick-off, is scheduled for Thursday, June 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event will include games, prizes, a DJ and more!

Following the kick-off event, the quarry will be open from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. daily until Monday, September 5. Admission information and guidelines are available at TownofStMarys.com/swimming. Details about recreation programs and swimming lessons can be found in the Spring and Summer 2016 Programs and Services Guide, available online, at Town of St. Marys facilities or by calling 519-284-2160.
