Town of St. Marys Home Support Services has been given a funding boost. The program received $3,600 from the Province’s Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility as part of its efforts to coordinate the subsidized delivery of meals, medicines and other necessities to seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. TD Bank also generously donated $300 to the program.

The funds are being used to expand the Town’s Meals on Wheels program to ensure it can continue to support vulnerable seniors and meet an expected surge in demand as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“Making healthy, nutritious meals is a major challenge for many seniors and caregivers right now,” said Jenny Mikita, Senior Services Supervisor for the Town of St. Marys. “This new funding will allow us to assist those who need help getting food on the table during this difficult time.”

The Meals on Wheels program offers hot and frozen meal options that are delivered safely to residents by trained volunteers. Frozen meals include a complete entrée that is easy to heat and enjoy any time. Hot meals are provided Monday through Friday and are delivered, ready to eat, between 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. These meals also include a complete entrée and a dessert.

Vegetarian options are available for frozen meals, and diet restrictions can be accommodated for hot meals. Orders can be arranged by contacting the Community Wellness Program at 519-284-3272 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Payment for meal deliveries can be made by over the phone using a credit card or a monthly bill can be mailed to your home. Subsidies are available for those in need.
