Win your chance to participate in evening magic show and more!

There’s lots to look forward to on Halloween weekend in St. Marys -- and the fun begins now as a variety of organizations are holding contests for “golden tickets” to appear in the live-streamed Majinx show on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31!

There are 10 opportunities to win a golden ticket to appear in the show, sponsored by United Way Perth-Huron. The St. Marys Public Library, St. Marys Museum, The Friendship Centre and St. Marys Youth Council are all holding contests to win a coveted spot on the show over the coming two weeks.  Look for contests on their social media accounts and at the facilities (where applicable).

Other confirmed contests include the St. Marys Independent Newspaper, St. Marys Ringette, St. Marys Minor Hockey and area schools. These organizations will issue their contests independently.

All ages can win a ticket, though it’s recommended that show participants are age 10 and up. Younger golden ticket winners should have an adult with them when they appear on the show.

Everyone is invited to Milt Dunnell Field on Halloween Saturday afternoon between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to be photographed in costume by Jayne Fuller, thanks to the generosity of the St. Marys Healthcare Foundation. The photos will become a slide show to be streamed prior to the Majinx show at 7:00 p.m., so all viewers can enjoy the costumes.

The first 250 costumed arrivals will receive a free bag of treats, thanks to a number of local businesses and the Rotary Club of St. Marys.

The fun doesn’t stop when Halloween Day is over: on Sunday, November 1,our community’s gently used jack-o-lanterns will light up Milt Dunnell Field in St. Marys’ first-ever Parade of Pumpkins! Pumpkins without candles, toothpicks or other additions can be dropped off between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Return between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. to take in our community’s creativity one last time before the pumpkins are properly composted at the landfill.

Anyone wanting pumpkins to feed to livestock or for horticultural use may contact Events Coordinator Andrea Macko at 519-284-2340, ext. 249 or amacko@town.stmarys.on.ca to arrange pick-up after the parade.

Please note that all in-person events will be subject to current COVID guidelines, including social distancing, hand sanitizing, and the wearing of masks for volunteers. Participants in both in-person events are encouraged to drive to Milt Dunnell Field to maintain social distancing; pedestrian participants may have to wait for entry as social gathering numbers dictate.

Considering the evolving nature of the pandemic, watch for updates and details as each event approaches. Follow @townofstmarys on Twitter and Instagram, and “Like” @stmarysontario on Facebook. Details will also be posted to our website, www.townofstmarys.com.
