Guided heritage kayak tours offer a new perspective on St. Marys’ history

The St. Marys Museum is taking its heritage walking tours to the water this summer.

In partnership with the Yak Shack, Museum staff will lead guided heritage kayak tours at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, and Friday, June 24. If the program proves popular, the Museum hopes to continue it into the summer.

“While there is lots to see on our traditional heritage walking tours, viewing some of our heritage features like the bridges and the dam from the water gives you an entirely new perspective,” says Cultural Services Manager and tour guide, Amy Cubberley.

The cost to participate is $15 and includes the use of a kayak, all the required safety gear, and the guided tour.

The Museum encourages first-time paddlers to try kayaking prior to registering for a tour. To try a kayak for free, all individuals need to do is reserve one online at discoverstmarys.ca/yakshack.

Those wishing to take a guided heritage kayak tour should pre-register as space is limited. To register and learn more, call the Museum at 519-284-3556.
