Friendship Centre to host International Women’s Day event on March 8

On Thursday, March 8, the St. Marys Friendship Centre will host its first-ever International Women’s Day event from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The event will feature presentations by local women from various backgrounds, with refreshments and a social hour to follow.

Ann Slater, a local grower of organic vegetables, will speak about her experiences as a farmer and environmentalist. Town of St. Marys Councillor Lynn Hainer will share about women in politics. Wellness Coordinator Pauline White will speak about issues related to women’s health and self-esteem. Finally, Warda al Hilal Al Bakkari and her daughter Marah Ajjan, members of the Syrian family sponsored by the St. Marys Refugee Sponsorship Group, will answer questions about their journey to Canada.  

Admission is free; however, attendees should pre-register by Tuesday, March 6 by contacting pwhite@town.stmarys.on.ca or 519-284-3272.

Media are invited to a photo opportunity with the guest speakers on March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Friendship Centre.
