The St. Marys Fire Department is pleased to announce Kruz Dumontier as its “Firefighter of the Month” for November.

Kruz joined the department as a firefighter in 2022. He came with numerous certifications and qualifications that made him a prime candidate for the role.

Kruz grew up in Drayton, Ontario with his parents and three siblings. When asked how he became interested in firefighting, Kruz responded: “My high school shop teacher, Mr. Howells, inspired me. He would talk about his time as a volunteer firefighter and how safety is a priority.”

These conversations encouraged Kruz to apply to Pre-Service Firefighting at Conestoga College in 2016.

“I love helping the community, working through challenges with others, and being there to assist during difficult moments," says Kruz. "I am fortunate to be part of a close and knowledgeable crew who hold themselves to a high standard. There are always opportunities to learn from other members of the department.”

Off duty, Kruz dedicates his time to his fiancé Jessica, their two dogs and his active lifestyle. Kruz is employed at Toyota Fire Services as an Industrial Firefighter/Fire Prevention Inspector.

“Kruz was selected as Firefighter of the Month for his ability to learn and his dynamic approach to self-development,” said Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “He is open to opportunities for improvement and took the initiative to complete the Ice Rescue Technician, Pumper Operations and Auto Extrication Technician courses.”

“Kruz consistently demonstrates the ability to learn and adapt to new situations” said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Edwards. “It’s exciting to see new recruits develop into fully qualified firefighters as they are the future of the department.”
