Local firefighters swapped their fire hoses for spatulas this past Sunday, May 6, 2018 to host the annual Firefighters Breakfast at the St. Marys Fire Station. For several hours throughout the morning, firefighters worked in the kitchen and on the line to prepare and serve freshly cooked food to the community.

The event saw over 1000 hungry people come through the door, all looking forward to enjoying pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage with juice, milk and coffee to wash it down. Following breakfast, attendees were allowed the opportunity to check out the fire apparatus, medical equipment and rescue gear. They were also paid a surprise visit from “Sparky the Fire Dog.”

St. Marys Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson was thrilled with the number of attendees and their generosity.

“All of the money received from the breakfast goes directly to Muscular Dystrophy and other local charities,” said Anderson. “This event is not only about raising money – it’s an opportunity for our firefighters to interact with the community in a non-emergency situation and thank them for their continued support.”

The firefighters wish to thank all of the local businesses and organizations that donated food, beverages and related items to help make the event a success. They would especially like to acknowledge Shirley Near of Coldwell Banker for her generosity. The turnout from the community was fantastic and the firefighters truly appreciate the tremendous support from residents and friends.
