The St. Marys Fire Department proudly announces Fire Captain Ryan Taylor as the March 2022 Firefighter of the Month.

Taylor joined the department in 1995 and has served as a firefighter for 26 years. Through hard work, dedication and upgrading his education, he was promoted to Captain on December 29, 2018.

Taylor was inspired to become a firefighter as a child because his best friend’s father was on the department.

“As a kid, I remember always enjoying heading up to the Firehall with him, or if I was ’lucky’ enough, getting to go to a call,” said Taylor, “I think that is where my interest started. I was also fortunate to spend my first couple of years on the department alongside him before he retired.”

One of Taylor’s favourite parts of being a firefighter, is being able to give back to the community, not only through fighting fires, but also through fundraising for local community charities, youth sports, scholarships, and Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Taylor was raised in St. Marys. He is married to Marcy. They have three children, Devin, Curtis and Reid. He works at St. Marys Cement plant and owns his own business.

Captain Taylor was selected as the Firefighter of the Month for numerous reasons; however, the unanimous decision was based on his leadership.

“He is an exceptional leader,” said Deputy Chief Brent Dundas, “Captain Taylor has always led by example. He has been a friend and mentor to countless members of this department.”
