Expanded Eligibility for Emergency Child Care

This media release was distributed by the City of Stratford and is being shared on its behalf. 

The Ontario government has announced expanded eligibility for Emergency Child Care. New additions to the list of those eligible for Emergency Child Care include:

  • Education staff who are required to report to work in person while their children continue with remote learning;
  • Grocery store and pharmacy workers;
  • Truck drivers;
  • Farmers and those who support food or agricultural product supply chains;
  • Individuals involved in the collecting, transporting, storing, processing, disposing or recycling of any type of waste;
  • Individuals working in the manufacturing and distribution of disinfectants and sanitizers; and
  • Individuals working in fuel distribution and oil refineries.

Emergency Child Care can be accessed at the Anne Hathaway Day Care Centre and the YMCA of Three Rivers in Stratford, the Spinrite Child and Family Centre in Listowel, Perth Care For Kids in Mitchell, and the St. Marys Child Care Centre in St. Marys.

Applications for eligibility can be made by calling City of Stratford Early Years Coordinator at 519-271-3773 ext. 404. Eligible families will then be contacted by the childcare center to complete the registration process.
