Work scheduled to begin first week of May

After surveying the public, gathering feedback from elementary school students and receiving Council approval, Town of St. Marys staff have finalized the design for the future Cadzow Park playground.

The forest-themed structure proposed by Playworld – known as Option 1 during the public consultation period - emerged as the preferred design. The design features an accessible saucer swing, climbers, interactive sensory areas, slides and more.

Some additional features, such as a sliding pole and zip-line have been added to the original design in response to suggestions from local students. The structure’s rubber surface has also been re-allocated to ensure a barrier-free flow and make the playground a more accessible space. Other features of the structure have been adjusted to accommodate the additions and modifications.

Work on the project will begin the week of May 1, 2017. Town staff will be onsite to check and prune trees and remove existing play equipment. Installation of the new structure will start the week of May 22 and should be complete by mid-June. Cadzow Park will remain open during the project; fencing will be in place to ensure the safety of those in the area. Park users are asked to exercise caution while the work is being done.

The new playground is being partially funded through a $50,000 grant from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program. An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held as part of the Canada 150 celebrations planned for Saturday, July 1st at Cadzow Park. Construction of the new playground is the first phase of a multi-year plan to revitalize Cadzow Park. Future phases will see the installation of a pavilion, splash pad and outdoor amphitheater.
