You’ve heard him on the radio; come July, you’ll be able to hear him live in our beautiful downtown!

St. Marys native “Darcy John” Scheuerman is returning to play the Stonetown Heritage Festival’s iconic street dance on Saturday, July 13.

“I’m so excited to be coming home for another year,” he says from his Nashville home. “I’m so blessed to be from a town that has so many amazing and supportive people!” Darcy will again be performing his high-energy mix of originals and country covers with a backing band, thanks to the generosity of presenting sponsor St. Marys Ford.

Darcy John’s had a busy year since playing to a packed street last year. In addition to a busy performance schedule in Nashville and a radio tour of Western Canada, Darcy John’s had three singles on Canadian radio, including the just-released There Goes My Truck. His other two singles, Hunt and Forget You Got a Broken Heart, both hit Number 1 on the Independent country charts.

“There’s nothing like playing your hometown, they are my favourite shows,” he enthuses, recalling how he attended the street dance in his youth, hoping that one day, he’d be the one of the Queen Street stage. “I don’t want to let anyone down because everyone has been beyond supportive of my music!”

Another local favourite will kick off the Heritage Festival on Friday night, July 12. Thanks to the Tapley family and Fix Auto, contemporary bluegrass quartet Corduroy Gordon will bring their unique blend of covers, originals and humour to the Cadzow Park amphitheatre for a free concert, beginning after opening ceremonies and the presentation of the Heritage Festival award at 7 p.m.

Saturday will be filled with all the traditional downtown favourites, beginning with a delicious pancake breakfast at the St. Marys Farmers Market. Queen Street will then come alive with a variety of vendors, hands-on family activities, street eats, and two special performers.

The Canadian Raptor Conservancy will bring high-flying and well-trained birds of prey for three shows plus a “meet and greet” throughout the day, while Trulee Odd will surprise and delight all ages with his unusual mix of talent and charm.

Following the iconic street dance on Saturday night, the fabulous Rotary Fireworks will bring the festival to a spectacular close.

Vendor booths are still available on Queen Street. To download an application form to be a street or food vendor, please visit www.stmarysheritagefestival.ca and click on “vendors”.
