Ink and Imagination opens November 26 throughout St. Marys

Just in time for the Christmas season in St. Marys, a one-of-a-kind exhibit will celebrate the creativity of children’s book illustrations and the collaborative spirit of the Stonetown.

The exhibit Ink and Imagination – A Celebration of Children’s Book Illustration opens Monday, November 26 and showcases the colourful work of major artists and illustrators that have delighted parents and children alike over the last 150 years.

Illustrations and books will be on display at the St. Marys Museum, the St. Marys Public Library and the St. Marys Station Gallery. These venues will offer a comprehensive exhibition of major European and North American artists from 1850 to present, with informative displays of each artist’s work accompanied by the books they appear in, some of them early, original editions.

Additionally, 40 members of the Downtown St. Marys Business Improvement Area will display a large poster of a favourite children’s book or illustration for passersby to enjoy. The storefront posters will be installed in time for the Santa Claus Parade on Friday, November 16.

In the days leading up to Christmas, exhibit guides will be available at all three indoor venues. Self-guided walking tours of the downtown will give visitors both an overview of the various parts of the exhibition and the opportunity to see many of St. Marys’ historic buildings finely dressed for the festive season. Visitors to the participating indoor venues can enter a draw for some of the new children’s books used in the displays.

This unique, family-oriented exhibit is made possible with the financial support of the Stratford Perth Community Foundation. Ink and Imagination opens on November 26, and runs until the weekend before Christmas. Admission is free at all venues.
