Financial support available to cover testing costs

Adult Learning Programs of Perth is assuring residents that it will continue to offer GED preparation and testing until 2024 in response to upcoming changes to the program.

The General Educational Development (GED)® test allows adults who have not finished secondary school the opportunity to earn an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate signed by the Minister of Education.

Those interesting in obtaining their GED must register to write the test by January 31, 2024, and must schedule their test dates by March 31, 2024, based on a decision by Pearson Vue GED Testing Service (GEDTS) to no longer provide the testing service in Canada.

Adult Learning offers a free GED preparation program for those planning to take the test. The program helps GED candidates improve their reading, writing and math skills, and provides self-study materials for science and social studies.

Adult Learning can also help candidates book their GED test and provide financial support to cover the testing fee. Candidates are encouraged to contact Adult Learning at 519-284-4408 or alearning@town.stmarys.on.ca to start the process.

Candidates can also visit the Adult Learning office to speak directly with staff. The office is located at 47 Water St. S. and is open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
