Town of St. Marys hosting Zoning By-law Open House
The Town of St. Marys is hosting a Zoning By-law Open House at the Municipal Operations Centre (408 James St. S) on Wednesday, January 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This drop-in event is a great chance for residents, business owners, and community members to share their thoughts about the Town’s Zoning By-law.
During the Open House topics that will be discussed will include permitted building uses, building heights, distance from property lines, parking requirements, etc. This event is an opportunity for the community to provide feedback. Please be aware that no decisions will be made at this time. The goal for this event is to hear from the community.
The Zoning By-law sets the rules for how land and buildings can be used in St. Marys. It covers things like where buildings can go, what types are allowed, lot sizes, building heights, and parking.
According to the Planning Act, local councils must update their Zoning By-law to match any changes in the Official Plan. The Town’s Official Plan was approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in October 2024. The current Zoning By-law (first adopted in 1997) needs to be updated to line up with the new plan, with help from NPG Planning Solutions Inc.
“Updating the Zoning By-law is a team effort. The process will include technical reports, updated maps, and lots of input from the public and other stakeholders” says Director of Building & Planning, Grant Brouwer. The goal is to finish the project by October 2026.
