Aquatics Centre currently closed for renovations

The Aquatics Centre has been closed to the public since November 2024, to accommodate renovations to the space that would address safety concerns caused by saltwater and high humidity. These renovations were deemed essential to ensure the facility could be used safely and effectively by the community. Due to unexpected recently discovered structural issues caused by saltwater and high humidity stemming from insufficiently sized HVAC equipment installed during the original construction, the renovation work is now expected to extend closure until fall 2025. 

Project updates and a reopening date, once confirmed, will be provided through local media, the Town website (www.townofstmarys.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com/stmarysontario) and Twitter/X (www.twitter.com/townofstmarys).

Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste includes items like chemicals, cleaners, paints and pesticides and are usually labelled as corrosive, explosive, poisonous or flammable. Hazardous waste must not be put in the garbage or down drains or storm sewers.

Hazardous Waste Disposal days

The Town hosts disposal days throughout the year to provide residents with a safe and convenient way to get rid of hazardous waste. Events are held at the Municipal Operations Centre (MOC) located at 408 James Street South (enter off South Service Road) from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

All materials must be sealed and in their original containers with labels. Materials in leaking, damaged, corroded and unlabeled containers will not be accepted. 

Materials should be transported in the rear of vehicles (trunk, truck bed, etc.), and contained in boxes for safe transport and unloading. Vehicles with materials in the back or front seat will be re-directed to a separate area of the parking lot where they can be moved to the trunk or tailgate. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times as materials will be unloaded by trained staff.

Please note that the hazardous waste depot that was located at the St. Marys Landfill has now been closed. Hazardous material will no longer be accepted at the landfill.

Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA)

The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority supports the transition to a circular economy and a waste-free Ontario. Collection sites are available across the province for the public to drop off materials such as batteries, electronics, tires and hazardous and special products.  Materials collected at these sites are reused, refurbished, recycled or properly disposed of to keep them out of the landfill, recover valuable resources and protect our environment.
