Veterans to be recognized at three events for 2026 Remembrance Week
St. Marys will mark Remembrance Week 2026 with three events.
On Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the St. Marys Legion and Army and Navy will host Veterans’ Decoration Day at the St. Marys Cemetery (150 Cain Street). Formerly known as the Veterans' Flag Planting Ceremony, loved ones of veterans interred at St. Marys Cemetery are invited to receive complimentary flags to place at veterans' graves. Flags can be picked up at the cemetery chapel on the day of the event.
On Sunday, November 8, the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a ceremony and parade. The parade will march from the St. Marys Legion to the Town Hall cenotaph at 12:30 p.m. A service of remembrance will follow. Church St. will be closed between Station St. and Queen St. from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Queen St. will also be closed between Peel St. and Church St. at this time.
Mayor Strathdee will lead a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Town Hall cenotaph on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:45 a.m. Queen St. will be closed between Peel St. to Church St. from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for the event.
Following the ceremony, residents are encouraged to visit the St. Marys Museum exhibit titled ‘Service on the Sea: St. Marys and the Royal Canadian Navy”, beginning on Wednesday, November 11. The exhibit outlines the history of the Royal Canadian Navy, highlighting the contributions that St. Marys and area residents made on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Service on the Sea will be available for viewing during the Museum’s regular hours until November 2027.
The interactive map that the community can use to explore all the banners around town or use the searchable list to quickly locate a loved one’s banner has also been updated for this year’s banner placements. The interactive map can be viewed at rcl236stmarys.ca/banners. Any question or inquiries about the banners should be directed to the St. Marys Legion.
