Town Reminds Residents to Keep Collected Leaves Off Roadways
The Town of St. Marys is reminding residents that raking, depositing or piling leaves on the roadway is prohibited under the Town’s Traffic and Parking By-law. Leaf piles can also slow street sweeping operations and make it more difficult for Town crews to efficiently clean local streets. Residents who place leaves or other yard waste on the roadway may be subject to fines and may also be responsible for costs associated with removing the material.
Residents are asked to keep leaves on their property until they can be properly disposed of. The Town provides several convenient options:
- Curbside collection: Leaves must be placed in kraft-style brown paper yard waste bags or reusable containers weighing less than 22 kg and placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on scheduled collection days. Loose leaves placed on the street or boulevard will not be collected.
- Municipal Operations Centre: Leaf and yard waste can be dropped off year-round, free of charge, at 408 James Street South. The depot is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk.
- St. Marys Landfill: Leaf and yard waste can also be dropped off year-round, free of charge.
Keeping leaves off the roadway helps Town crews complete street sweeping more efficiently and keeps local streets clear.
