Town of St. Marys Proclaims September 25 as St. Marys Imagination Library Day

The Town of St. Marys has proclaimed September 25 as St. Marys Imagination Library Day, recognizing the local success of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and its impact on early childhood literacy in the community.

Founded in St. Marys in 2021 by local champions Chantal Lynch and Dennis DesRosiers, the program provides free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth to age five. Since its launch, nearly 14,700 books have been delivered to 629 local children, with approximately 300 children currently enrolled.

"Programs like the Imagination Library help build strong foundations for lifelong learning," said Mayor Al Strathdee. "This proclamation recognizes the dedication of the volunteers, donors and supporters who have made this program such a success in our community."

The St. Marys Imagination Library Fund, administered by the Stratford Perth Community Foundation, is working toward a $300,000 endowment that will permanently fund book and mailing costs for local children. With just $54,000 remaining to reach its goal, organizers are encouraging community members to help secure the program's future.

Community members are encouraged to join the effort by:

Donating Online: Secure contributions can be made directly via CanadaHelps on the St. Marys Imagination Library Donation Page.

Donating In-Person: Cheques made out to the St. Marys Imagination Library or Stratford Perth Community Foundation can be dropped off directly at Hyggeligt Fabrics (144 Queen St E).
