Three inductees selected for 2026 Sports Wall of Fame

Inductees to be celebrated at Pyramid Recreation Centre this fall 

At its meeting last Thursday evening, the Recreation and Leisure Advisory Committee selected three inductees for the Sports Wall of Fame. These representatives were chosen for their achievements and outstanding accomplishments in sports in the community. The 2026 inductees will be celebrated this fall.  

Below are brief summaries of the inductees, capturing the key highlights of their achievements, contributions, and the remarkable influence they have had on sports within the community. 

Athlete inductees:

An accomplished baseball player, Mike Teahen had a lengthy career as an active athlete. After starting his competitive ball journey right here in St. Marys, eventually being called up to the Inter-County Senior League representing Stratford. Mike then went on to play professionally in Alberta for 6 seasons and has represented the country as a member of Canada’s National Men’s Baseball team five times playing in World Championships, Pan-Am Games, and more. Teahen has received further acclaim when named Most Valuable Player of the Alberta Major Baseball League in 1978 and was named as All-Star for the same league three years later in 1981.  

Amie Shackleton has cemented herself as a prolific curler in her field and is now being recognized in her home community. From her early years of involvement in the sport, Amie has been a trailblazer for women’s curling both locally and across the province. Throughout her decades-long competitive career, Amie has amassed countless medals, trophies, banners, and more. Some highlights of her esteemed career include multi-season appearances at Trophy Provincials, Silver Tankards, Ontario Mixed Curling Championships, Intermediate Women’s Provincials, and at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Shackleton’s prestigious career has set a standard of success and elevated the curling community in St. Marys. 

Loiey Moir, an accomplished ladies fastball player who began her career playing minor ball in St. Marys, has been selected as an Athlete inductee. Loiey was instrumental in the expansion and development of ladies fastball in town and competed as a member of the St. Marys Pullets who won the Ontario provincial championship in 1962 and 1963. Moir went on to play catcher for the Kitchener Kieswetters starting in 1965; winning the 1971 Canadian National Championship. The pinnacle of Loiey’s success occurred in 1972 when she represented Canada at the World Ladies Fastball Tournament in Italy where the team secured a second-place finish. From humble roots as female athlete of the year at St. Marys DCVI in 1954, 1956, and 1957, Loiey Moir has demonstrated outstanding athletic success in her field.  

The next call for Sports Wall of Fame nominations will start in April 2027. An announcement will be made when nominations open through the local media, social media, and Town website: townofstmarys.com/sportswall
