St. Marys Commemorates Canada Day at Cadzow Park

There’s no better place to celebrate Canada on Wednesday, July 1, than Cadzow Park in St. Marys! Join us for a festive gathering, rain or shine, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Start the day with the annual Canada Day parade. This year’s parade route departs from the Pyramid Recreation Centre at 11:00 a.m., travels up James St. S, turns left onto Queen St. E to make its way downtown, then left on Wellington St. S and finally left onto Park St., ending at Cadzow Park. The parade is free to enter; register your float by calling Don and Margaret at 519-284-1548. The deadline to register a float is June 26.

The official flag-raising and singing of the national anthem will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Cadzow Park stage. Indigenous educator Patsy Anne Day will then lead a land welcoming ceremony to honour and acknowledge the Indigenous homelands.

Two musical acts will take the stage at Cadzow Park after the ceremony. Jesse Webber will kick things off at 1:00 p.m., followed by the indie-folk duo, York Street Thought Process, at 2:00 p.m.

Activities for all ages will be offered throughout the afternoon, including an inflatable jumper, face painting, children’s arts and crafts with EarlyON, activities with the St. Marys Public Library, and interactive demonstrations with Stonetown Karate. Pack your swimsuit as the splash pad will be open all day. The St. Marys Museum will be open during the event with exhibits and children’s crafts, offering a great space to cool down from the summer heat. Admission to the museum is free; donations are appreciated.

After working up an appetite, indulge in a delicious bite at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s fundraising barbecue. The Sunset Shack will also provide an exciting array of street food available for purchase. Additionally, attendees are welcome to enjoy a complimentary treat at the event, generously provided by Tremblett’s Your Independent Grocer.

Canada Day at Cadzow Park will be a day to remember, filled with community spirit and national pride.
