Loud for Libraries: Will you champion the St. Marys Public Library’s Vision for a New Community Space this Ontario Public Library Week?

From discovering a new favourite book to learning a new skill, accessing technology or connecting with neighbours, the St. Marys Public Library plays an important role in bringing the community together. This Ontario Public Library Week, the Library is inviting residents to celebrate everything their local library offers and help build its future by supporting the Community Commons capital campaign.

A public library is much more than a place to borrow books. It is a welcoming space where people of all ages can explore new interests, access information, develop skills, and find opportunities to connect. At the St. Marys Public Library that includes everything from reading and lifelong learning to creative experiences through the Makerspace, digital resources and programs that bring people together.

“Libraries are at the heart of strong communities. Every day, we see how access to knowledge, welcoming spaces, and opportunities to connect can make a difference in people’s lives,” says Sarah Andrews, CEO of the St. Marys Public Library. “Ontario Public Library Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what our library means to St. Marys and to look ahead at how we can continue meeting the needs of our growing community.”

Here are five ways to support your local library this week:

  • Visit the Library: Browse the collection, discover digital resources, explore the Makerspace, or spend some time enjoying the space.

  • Try Something New: Learn about programs, services, and resources that support creativity, technology, literacy, and lifelong learning

  • Spread the Word: Tell a friend about a favourite library service, share a positive experience, or help others discover what the library has to offer.

  • Get Involved: Learn more about the Friends of the St. Marys Public Library and the volunteer-led fundraising and advocacy efforts that support library programs and enhancements

  • Give Toward the Future: Contribute to the Community Commons capital campaign and help create more opportunities and space for learning, connection, and participation in St. Marys.

This Ontario Public Library Week, residents are encouraged to celebrate the library they know and love while helping create space for what comes next. Every visit, conversation, volunteer hour and donation can contribute to a stronger, more connected community.
