Town-wide snow removal/maintenance – week of January 26

The Town of St. Marys Public Works team is currently managing the snow accumulation in St. Marys by planning a town-wide snow cleanup that will take place this week.

Throughout the day on Monday, January 26 local plows will complete their final plow run, prioritizing hills and applying a heavy sand mixture to provide traction. St. Marys is currently facing a salt shortage, which is impacting much of the province. Typically, tactics for road maintenance would include switching to a treated salt that activates at a lower temperature. However, this is not an option due to the shortage. The salt that the Town currently has access to is not as effective in these conditions. The Public Works team is reminding residents to take extra caution on the roads, sidewalks and trails. Plowing and sanding will continue to improve traction, but the roads may still be slippery. Slow down, make gentle turns and avoid sudden braking.

Throughout the week, the Town will be cleaning out critical snow storage areas, performing blowbacks where possible and removing snow from cul-de-sacs.

A downtown core snow cleanup is scheduled on Wednesday, January 28 from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. on the following streets:

  • Queen St. from Water St. to Peel St.
  • Water St. from Jones St. to the bridge
  • Wellington St. from Jones St. to the bridge
  • Church St. From Jones St. to the bridge

Please refrain from parking on the street overnight to enable our crews to clear snow efficiently and effectively in accordance with the Traffic, Parking and Boulevard Maintenance By-law.

A Municipal parking lot clean up will take place on Thursday, January 29 from 3:30 am to 6:00 am in the following lots:

  • Water St. N
  • Jones St. E
  • Elgin St. E
  • The Opera House lot
  • Well 2 lot (located north of Queen St., between Water St. N. and Wellington St. N)

Individuals holding municipal parking permits will receive direct notifications requesting the removal of their vehicles from the lot. During this period, vehicles with municipal parking permits may be parked on the street overnight; however, parking in another municipal lot is prohibited.

The Town of St. Marys would like to thank everyone for their cooperation. Travel safely and be mindful of others! We will get through this winter weather together.
