Learn to Spot the Scams: Fraud Prevention Session Coming May 13
Community members are invited to attend an upcoming Fraud Prevention Talk aimed at helping residents recognize and avoid common scams and fraud schemes. The free event will take place on Wednesday, May 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Friendship Centre.
Hosted by the Stratford Police Service, the session will be led by Sgt. Jeff McGregor and Cst. Darren Fischer, who will share practical information, real‑world examples, and prevention tips to help attendees protect themselves and others from fraud.
Topics covered during the presentation will include:
- Fee fraud, where individuals send money for goods or services that are never delivered
- Emergency scams, which pressure victims into sending money quickly
- Phishing scams, including fraudulent emails, texts, and phone calls
- Door to door scams, where fraudsters target residents in their homes
Adding a friendly presence to the evening, Dusty, the Stratford Police Service facility dog, will also be in attendance.
Constable Darren Fischer emphasizes the importance of community awareness when it comes to fraud prevention. “It’s important to learn about the different types of fraud and scams out there and to carry this message forward, as it takes a community effort to help prevent people from becoming victims of these crimes.”
The session is open to all community members and advance registration is encouraged as space is limited. Register on Activenet or call the Friendship Centre at 519‐284‐3272 to save your seat.
