Earth Week events aim to highlight actions and inspire change

The Town of St. Marys and the Green Advisory Committee are celebrating Earth Week with a slate of impactful initiatives happening Monday, April 15 to Saturday, April 20, 2024.

“We are thrilled to enhance our Earth Week initiatives this year,” says Thomas Redman, Public Works Coordinator for the Town of St. Marys. “Even small actions can make a big difference in creating a greener, healthier future for all.”

A Town-wide Litter Collection campaign will be running throughout Earth Week. This initiative focuses on minimizing litter in the Town's parks and on local streets. A designated bin will be available at the north end of Milt Dunnell Field (1 Veteran’s Circle) for participants to discard any litter they collect within local parks and the community.

On Wednesday, April 17, the Town is partnering with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and local schools to plant around 150 trees within the designated naturalization area at the Municipal Operations Centre. This initiative will not affect any existing amenities, like the walking trail, ensuring minimal disruption.

The annual Thames River Clean-up Project is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Milt Dunnell Field. More information on the Thames River Clean-up Project can be found at

The Town is also encouraging residents to consider its Tree Donation Program as part of their Earth Week celebrations. The Town accepts monetary donations for the planting of trees on public lands in remembrance, observance, or acknowledgment of a special event or purpose. For more information or to make a donation, visit
